Cellardoor Winery & Vineyards

grapesMaine is proud of it’s agricultural community and heritage, and we are proud to announce our ability to make a fine wine. Yes, vineyards in Maine! Cellardoor is a wonderful place to visit and taste fine wines made in Maine. These folks are professionals, and their business has accomplished great bouquets over the many years they have been serving and making wine.

http://mainewine.com

They have an extraordinary selection, a magnificent bar and lounge area designed for comfort and style with a lot of traditional decor and bright sunlight.  A tour of the Cellardoor Winery would be a memory you would cherish always, and even want to repeat on a regular basis.

Common Ground Fair

Common Ground Fair Maine

Common Ground Country Fair in Maine

The Common Ground Country Fair is the way fairs should be: a coming together of farmers, gardeners, folk artists and a few musicians  to celebrate the harvest and share food and fun. The fair has grown substantially in the last few years and events are now spread over three, activity-packed days and evenings. If you love Maine, you’ll love this fair which features not only organic produce and Maine crafts, but also livestock shows, a fleece tent, herb lectures, and live music.

What you won’t find are carnival rides. There are many “fairs” that offer those, but this one is focused more on local businesses and local fun, like blueberry pie eating contests and ox pulling demonstrations. It’s a wonderful look at country life in Maine. One warning: if you plan to visit on Saturday, get there early, since as you’d expect, it’s the busiest day of the fair.

The Belfast Bay Inn is only 25 miles from the MOFGA Common Ground Fairgrounds, and the ride to Unity, Maine is scenic and enjoyable.

MOFGA celebrated its 32nd Common Ground Country Fair on September 19, 20 & 21, 2008, in Unity, Maine. 59,000 people took part in our annual celebration of rural living. Mark your calendars for the 2009 Fair on September 25, 26 & 27! For additional details, visit their website at http://www.mofga.org

New Years by the Bay in Belfast

New Years by the Bay Belfast

Wow! This is a huge and wonderful event.

If you just now found out, you will be surprised and delighted to know it has been happening for 12 years. There is music, theatre, more music, artists in action, even more music, dancing, poetry, a wide variety of particularly good food, and a lot more music. There are bagpipes, a native american flute, chamber music, folk, fiddles, gypsy, jazz, latin, bebop, all frosted by a final bonfire on the waterfront. This is one of the biggest events in Maine held in the exquisite little harbor city of Belfast. If you love Mid-Coast Maine, this celebration is happening to celebrate you, so be there.

For a complete 3 page program and map of the events, click here: http://www.nybb.org/nybbprogram.pdf : Print it out, and then show up for the fun.
