The Story of Belfast Bay Inn
A Life of Devotion to the Art of the Luxury Hotel
A Beautiful Masterpiece in a Small Package
Ed and Judy Hemmingsen love the innkeeping business. They owned and operated a 97-room luxury hotel in Bar Harbor, Maine for 21 years. Their restaurant at the inn was one of 41 AAA Five Diamond award recipients in North America. In 2000 they sold the Bar Harbor Hotel and moved to Belfast, Maine, to retire. After five years of retirement, they bought a Greek Revival Row House on Main Street in Belfast and spent 2-1/2 years of design and construction to transform it into The Belfast Bay Inn featuring 8 lovely AAA Four Diamond Award winning guest suites. The Belfast Bay Inn is a beautiful upscale rebirth of a historic landmark located on Main Street just steps to the harbor pier.
In addition to Belfast Bay Inn, they have recently purchased, renovated and redecorated the Ullikana Inn on the shore path in Bar Harbor, Maine. Ullikana features beautiful upscale cottage style guest rooms and suites all with AC, TV, WiFi and some with fireplaces and views of the harbor. Bar Harbor’s historic shore path, that meanders along the waterfront, is just across the yard.
